Dear Jignesh, I am curious to know the about the LV CB selection requirements for bus tie-in applications between Motor Control Centers, particularly the following scenario.
Two Dyn11 Transformers 2500 kVA, 11/0.415 kV feeding two different MCCs need to be fitted with a bus tie-in between them. I’ve came across a scheme where there are 4pole ACBs as LV incomers to those boards whilst only 3pole ACBs (no breaking for the neutral) as bus tie-in CBs.There is a trip logic controlling these CBs, as the permanent paralleling will be blocked by this logic and one out of the two Incomer CBs will be tripped in case of a permanent paralleling situation. However, whilst closing the bus-tie, Transfomer Neutrals will make a closed loop since there are no breaking of the neutrals on the CBs. Anybody could tell me is there any international standards for selecting CBs for such applications? Is this scheme technically good? Is there any danger in connecting the neutrals together? please consider that the subject distribution network is prone to have harmonic distortion. Please advise…thanks in advance

Dear Sir ,
I have a question ,suppose we are going to design a LT Panel Main switch board and acdb 3 phase for a control room of substation , so there will be lighting loads , ac , fan , and the Ac supply to the motors in isolator , and the OLTC of the transformer ..etc similarly there will be many other loads too , I am not able to find study material that guide me through the calculations needed to design the panel , which includes load estimation first , then the various mcb and mccbs to be used and also the bus bar size .
Please help me with this
any help will be much appreciated .

Hello,
Thanks for this wonderful article @ the Sizing the cables !
I am confused about the formulas used for DOL starter motors and Star-Delta starter motors i.e., it is @ length.
can we use same formulas DOL starter and Star-Delta starter?
as an example: there is a 30 kW,415 V, 3-ph, 50 Hz motor at a distance of 150 mtr from MCC panel; I want to know the what length used for DOL starter and Star-Delta starter for the calculation of the Voltage Drop – starting+running.
If possible please provide separate formula and help.

Dear Mr. jignesh
i am from Wind mill background and working in 200 MVA SS. i need to know why Transformer KVARH Import is very high compared to WTG.
While Low generation for example 1650 kW WTG generates 700 KW the WTG KVARH is high compared to Power transformer. but when WTG generates 1650 KW at full load. the Transformer KVARH is more than WTG.
Can you Please explain How it is possible.

HOW I FIND THE IMBALANCE % OF 3 PHASE VOLTAGE AND CURRENT
I can only say ” EXCELLENT”.
Wonderful work.
i had purchase 3 hp 1 phase Monoblock Pumpset from Kilsokar and the distance between Meter and Pump is around 900 feet now the problem is that we are unable to run the pump due to voltage/current drop down pl. suggest the solution for the same
Harish Doshi
This voltage drop is due to resistance & reactance of the cable used. To mitigate this voltage drop it is recommended to use higher size cable.
To find the desired cable size pump motor name plate details required i.e rated current & rated voltage.
Abhijit
Thanks very much for your good work

Dear Mr. Jignesh Parmar,
Very nice your Excel programming,
In my opinion there is a small mistake in your programming.(C.B Tripping Setting & Motor Data(22.8.12).xls) Tab motor data.
Also in the new version the error is still there.
I try to explain: (C.B Tripping Setting & Motor Data(22.8.12).xls)
Your calculation in cell AJ12 will generate a mistake if you choose for the locked rotor code (Cel D14) the letter V.
In your calculation the result is 12 in stead of minimum 24.
The values of the range locked rotor code A till V is increasing and at the last selection (V) decreasing.
I have changed the mistake and made some cosmetic changes.
Where can I send the excel file?
Regards,
Happy Harry
Well done Engr. how much and how can i make payment.

Dear Sir,
Do you have a “Arc flash calculator” as per IEC TR 61641 / Equi: in excel format?
Hello Sir, which is the best way to transmit 3MW power to a 66KVA substation. Transmission line length is 11km. I want too know about wire size, losses, number/set of transmission line etc.
Respected Sir,
Plz help me about some points. I am working on micro hydro power plant, which is from 15KW to 500 KW in Pakistan,
I have some issues If you solve these for me I will be great thankful to you.
1. How Can I survey for transmission Lines/Distribution lines in the hilly areas as well as in the plane area?
2. In which rout will be suitable for it?
3. Which poles be used here I mean LT/HT poles?
4. In how many distances a transformer can be used and in which Generator can be used a transformer I mean above 75 KW or may be below.?
5. and How the transformer rate calculated for it? KVA?
I will wait for your good response.
Thanking You Sir

Hi Jignesh
i have buy you fault level calculation Xl tool and calculated fault level of our existing set up plz see attachment but i have few query related which has already mentioned on each sheet but summery of the queries are following below.
I have 3 transformers each of following below specification.
1600 kVA, 33 kV, Z% 6.24%
900 kVA , 33 kV, Z% 5.08%
900 kVA, 33 kV, Z% 5.08%
Queries:
1. Is selected value of base kVA & bae kV is correct in each cases.
2. I have consider cable max.DC resistance at 20 degree celcious is correct or i have to take max AC resistance at 90 degree celcious.
3. I have assumed Fault level at HT incoming supply as 750 MVA is correct.
4. In old 900 kVA calculation i have to right value of cable from DO fuse to transformer 2 times in HT side otherwise your calculator is not accepting the data.Similarly i have to put data of cables from secondary side of transformer to DM PCC.
5.In new 900 kVA calculation sheet we have bus duct in secondary side of the transformer then how and what value of resistance and reactance to put.
6. From DM PCC to MCC-10 we have laid two different size of cables i.e 3C x 300 sq mm & 3 1/2 C x 185 sq mm cable then how to put the value of resistance and reactance in respected column or the way i mentioned in two places is correct.
7. This calculator is useful if only one transformer but if we have two transformer in parallel or one transformer and one DG set in parallel then how to calculate.
8 Is it possible to send me the all the formula used in your calculator.
hope you will understand our concern and revert back as soon as possible.
waiting for your reply.

In power factor correction , please let me know how the single phase sensing is effective compare to three phase sensing or which is the correct procedure to follow.
Thanks
Dear Sir,
I have a question that, In EHV Network if the star point of source transformer is operating with solid/ resistance/ impedance grounding then is it necessary that any of the other receiving end transformers also required star point grounding in case of that receiving end transformer’s primary is star connected winding (The winding which is connected in the network).
In our case we are at receiving end with Star, Star & Tertiary winding transformer, we are experiencing disturbance tripping of HV Side stand-by earth fault during any upstream side faults.
Hence, we hope to leave the HV Star Point un-grounded to avoid disturbance tripping.
Please suggest me in this regard.
Thank you very much in advance.
Thanks You for your electrical reference for my bright & excellent your contribution for excell soft ware.

Hi Jignesh,
On your D-G set sizing spreadsheet, I did find 2 major anomalies.
1) For a motor rated current calculation on input , you have not accounted for the motor efficiency.
2) For a soft start calculation, there is an error in the formula on cells L11 & AO11. Use of word ‘Soft’ & ‘Soft.’ and so it is miscalculated. Kindly check & re-release. Thanks
